NEWS: Guided Tour in English

The Moulin du Got, last remaining vestige of the considerable papermaking activity in the Limousin in the C18th, was built during the C15th to make paper and continued to do so until it was closed down in the middle of the C20th.

This mill, situated on the Tard river, a tributary of the Vienne, to the west of Saint Léonard de Noblat has seen generations of paper-makers making sheets of rag paper by hand, primarily for printers in Paris.

From 1850, during the Industrial Revolution, the mill was converted to make wrapping paper from straw.

After the Second World War the Moulin du Got started to produce rolled cardboard, used to make doll’s heads, masks or rocking horses. But then a new material appeared, plastic, and bit-by-bit this took the place of cardboard and the mill finally closed in 1954.
